Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. When she reached nine years old, the family of Decker was living in Louisiana which was where she took home the regional talent contest by singing a cover of Patsy Montana's "I Would Like to Be the Sweetheart of a Cowboy. Decker's family moved out of Louisiana and into Georgia in the summer of 1995. She was beginning to compose songs and made regular visits in Nashville. To find an agreement, Decker visited record companies and music publishers. In 1997, she'd been turning 17 when a Big Yellow Dog Records rep saw her. He started selling her songs and music to numerous musicians and record companies. The demos of Decker were sent to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was then in charge for Island/Def Jam. Reid then signed Decker to a contract with a record label. Her debut album, a self-titled release under the name Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James was reasonably successful and also featured Wanted an album track that made it to the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker is always considered a country singer, yet the album was produced and promoted for a pop audience. Decker was unhappy with two more singles from the album against the management of the label to get greater control. Decker then released her second single Boys in the Summer which is more traditional. The second album that Decker released under the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and, after the release of three singles fared poorly on the country charts Decker was let go of her contract.
